Wood Thrush Farm is looking for crew members to join our team for the 2025 season
Wood Thrush Farm (WTF) is a small diversified vegetable operation based in Ulster county. We are a no-till farm, leasing land from and following the methods of Four Winds Farm. WTF is a women-led successor business of Windfall Farms (Morse Pitts - Montgomery, NY). We use the term UNconventionally Grown, which means we grow our produce without the use of any pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers. A bit more than your average vegetable farm, Wood Thrush aims to be a culinary experience. Throughout the seasons we seek to bring a wide array of carefully orchestrated flavors and aromas, to inspire and excite our customers, and embolden them to rethink how to prepare food in the kitchen. We grow over 500 varieties of vegetables and fruits throughout the season, and maintain a coop of around 100 laying hens. While we specialize in high quality hand harvested baby greens and microgreens, we also grow everything that you’d find fresh at market, as well as several specialty crops like ginger, turmeric and edible flowers. We farm on just 4 acres of land, and are always striving toward efficiency. Many of our tasks are accomplished by hand, though in order to make some of our most difficult tasks easier, we have a 27 HP tractor, walk behind BCSs, compost spreaders, and an electric golf car.
We attend the 79th st Greenmarket in NYC, on Sundays.
As we adjust to some of our crew returning to their schooling we are looking for a crew member to join our team for the remainder of the 2024 season, and beyond. Crew members work alongside owners, Laurel and Kevin and the 4-6 other employees, and are involved in all aspects of production; compost spreading; greenhouse propagation; transplanting; weeding; harvesting, washing, and packing; maintenance of irrigation, tools, and work areas; and marketing produce. There are opportunities to learn and focus on current aspects of the operation, with room to work toward future mutual intentions and goals with greater responsibility.
Our season spans from March-December 2025.
As we continue to grow and expand, we have several future projects we’d love to work toward with the help of our crew, including but not limited to, allotting bed space with sole intent to donate, community dinners, and incorporating value added products.
